The Garden Square Project asks British institutions for the loan of a 8 x 8 metre patch of exclusively kept lawn, to build a Garden Square at the centre of the Tate Turbine Hall, during the One City, One Day Festival. The borrowed lawn is then laid as part of the city’s public spaces, inviting the public to make use of the garden square and enjoy a ‘déjeuner sur l'herbe’. The loan-request letters sent to the chosen institutions - with photo-montages showing the requested area of lawn - are displayed in the format of postcards for the public to collect and take with them. The public are encouraged to give their own answers to the question: Who would you ask to loan their lawn?. A link to the project’s website is set to collect those answers.
